NJIT Professor To Give Keynote Talk at IEEE's Globecom 2011 Workshop

Nirwan Ansari, PhD, a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at NJIT, has been invited to deliver a keynote speech, "On Accelerating Content Delivery," at the IEEE GLOBECOM 2011 Workshop on Multimedia Communications and Services.  The conference http://www.ieee-globecom.org/ is set for Dec. 5, 2011 in Houston.

Ansari will discuss in his workshop roadblocks to achieving rapid content delivery, the state of the art on accelerating content delivery and further challenges as the Internet continues evolving.

“The Internet has evolved into a critical global infrastructure, affecting every facet of how people live and conduct business,” said Ansari.  “While the Internet may create entrepreneurial possibilities and markets it has also become the platform through which content is pulled and pushed using various end means devices. Streaming content in a timely fashion can present a challenge, which can have a direct impact on the economic vibrancy of content providers, service providers, and equipment vendors.” 

Ansari’s research focuses on broadband networks and multimedia communications. The National Science Foundation (NSF) currently supports his effort to provision energy-efficient communications by powering wireless networks with renewal energy. NSF has supported his work to provide services to a growing set of traffic classes in next- generation networks. He has led an international collaboration between Japan and the U.S. to find advanced security technologies for next-generation ubiquitous networks under NSF’s Strategic International Cooperative Program with Japan’s Science and Technology Agency.

Ansari co-authored Computational Intelligence for Optimization (Springer, 1997) and co-edited Neural Networks in Telecommunications (Springer, 1994). He has served on the editorial board and advisory board of eight journals, including as a senior technical editor of the IEEE Communications Magazine (2006-2009).  In 2009, he was named an IEEE Fellow and in 2010 received the Research & Development Council of New Jersey’s Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award. 

He has co-authored more than 150 refereed journal articles and is the co-inventor of 10 issued US patents. He was a distinguished lecturer of the IEEE Communications Society from 2006-2009.   Recent honors include an IEEE Leadership Award from the Central Jersey/Princeton Section (2007), the NJIT Excellence in Teaching Award in Outstanding Professional Development (2008), and IEEE MGA Leadership Award (2008), the NCE Excellence in Teaching Award (2009) and best paper awards from IC-NIDC (2009) and IEEE GLOBECOM (2010).

Ansari received his doctorate from Purdue University.
