NJIT Enters New Partnership

NJIT and Tungtay (Kunshan) Vacuum Coating Engineering Inc. of Chengdu, China entered into a partnership today to advance the manufacturing technology for the production of solar panels using Cadmium Telluride and CIGS, thin film photovoltaic cells.  NJIT Solar Energy Research Center research has produced new concepts in solar cell and module manufacturing that will be used to design a new pilot scale production line and technology demonstration center at the university.

Tungtay president Gan Guo Gong, signed a research collaboration agreement worth $1.6M and a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture partnership with the university that will be the vehicle for translation of the scientific research into commercially viable production systems.  "This agreement represents important validation of the practical impact of our solar energy research team", said NJIT Sr. Vice President for Research and Development Donald H. Sebastian.   "I am especially excited about the potential of this new relationship to catalyze growth of an entire production sector here in New Jersey that will generate practical and affordable approaches to renewable energy production."
