Cloud Computing for Education Workshop

A three-day professional development workshop for high school teachers took place at NJIT on July 2, 3, and 5.  A collaboration between Reza Curtmola, professor in department of computer science, and the Center for Pre-College Programs (CPCP) at NJIT, the workshop was funded by the National Science Foundation and has exposed 20 high school teachers to the concept of cloud computing and how it can be used to improve instruction.  The goal of the workshop was to develop curriculum units on cloud-based technologies that can be integrated into high-school education.  Through a series of lectures and hands-on exercises, the workshop explored topics such as using cloud-based tools for real-time collaboration, storing and sharing data using the cloud, security and privacy implications of using cloud services.  The participants will be back at NJIT for a 1-day follow-up meeting in December to track progress on developing and implementing a lesson that applies concepts learned during the workshop.
