NJIT's Donald Sebastian Invited To White House Meeting

NJIT Senior Vice President of Research and Development Donald H. Sebastian believes NJIT will play a larger role in the upcoming White House discussions on curbing gun violence.  Sebastian expects NJIT to be called upon as technology experts to move along  the development of innovative gun safety technology.  According to yesterday's White House Report, the current administration will issue a challenge to the private sector to develop innovative and cost-effective gun safety technology and provide prizes for those technologies that are proven to be reliable and effective.  Sebastian was invited to join senior White House administration officials and gun safety experts last Friday at a special White House meeting to identify ways to deter mass shootings and reduce gun violence.  U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder convened the gathering which was part of a larger series of information sessions held by the White House.

"My group was composed of technologists," said Sebastian.  "A lively discussion ensued and ended with a pledge to reconvene and proactively look for ways to help bring personalized weapons tech into the market."
