NJIT Names New Associate VP of Communications, Marketing, College Relations

NJIT, New Jersey’s science and technology university, announces the appointment of Matthew Golden, EdD, as associate vice president, communications, marketing and branding, effective May 1, 2013.  Golden joins NJIT with more than a decade in the communications field.  Previously, he was associate vice president for communications, marketing and college relations at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) where he administered budgets totaling more than $4 million annually.

“We welcome Matt to NJIT,” said Charles R. Dees, Jr., PhD, vice president for university advancement.  “We are pleased to have on board someone with Matthew’s creativity and track record.  He brings a unique set of experiences and practical know-how to NJIT students, faculty and staff.”     

Golden, who had been with TCNJ since 2004, held several positions there including acting vice president for college relations and advancement/executive director of TCNJ Foundation, Inc.; executive director of public affairs and strategic programs; and director of communications and media relations.  His notable accomplishments included tripling the number of positive media placements, placing stories and editorials related to issues in higher education in media outlets including CNN, Newsweek, USA Today, The New York Times and more.  He has directed crisis communications during several major incidents.  Since his arrival on campus, applications for admissions rose by more than 45 percent.

Prior to joining TCNJ, he was with the NJ Department of Treasury as deputy director of communications.  

Golden received his doctorate in higher education administration and leadership from The George Washington University; his master’s degree in communication and information from Rutgers University and his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.
