NJIT University Lecturer Discusses Reverse Engineering at FYEE Conference

Balraj Subra Mani, university lecturer in the department of mechanical and industrial engineering, recently presented a paper co-authored with Reggie Caudill, professor and department chair, on reverse engineering at the Fifth Annual First Year Engineering Experience Conference (FYEE) in Pittsburgh.  Initiated in 2011, the department of mechanical and industrial engineering introduced reverse engineering as part of the curriculum for entering freshmen with mechanical engineering as their major.  The reverse engineering concept, in which students experience the role of a product design engineer from ideation to product release, has been adopted with successful outcomes in about thirty schools in the country.

At the same conference, Ashish Borgaonkar, assistant dean of students for learning communities, chaired the session “Student Experiences: Living Learning Communities, Student Engagement, Identity, & Leadership.
