NJIT McNair Scholars Selected for DOE Internships

Wendy Hertulien (left) and Faidy Rusinque (right) were selected to participate in DOE internships.

Two young women, both NJIT McNair Scholars and rising chemical engineers, were invited to join selective Department of Energy (DOE) internship programs.  This coming fall, Faidy Rusinque, who has entered her senior year, will participate in a competitive undergraduate laboratory investigation at Brookhaven National Laboratory to examine the shift of water and gas when it touches metal and oxides.  Wendy Hertulien, who graduated this past June, recently participated in The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship, a 10-week summer internship program for minority STEM women.

The NJIT McNair program is under the direction of Chemical Engineering Professor Angelo Perna, who receives frequent accolades for improving so many lives.  “No other program in the nation can match what we accomplish here,” Perna likes to say.
