Management Professor Shanthi Gopalakrishnan's Fulbright in Spain Produces Papers in Top Engineering and Business Journals

Shanthi Gopalakrishnan, an NJIT professor of management, spent several weeks last summer as a Fulbright specialist at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain, giving lectures on innovation and technology management and helping the university set up a syllabus for related business courses to be taught in English.

She also worked closely with researchers at the university on two topics in her field of study, innovation performance and the process by which businesses build knowledge bases that will give them a competitive advantage. Both were accepted for publication earlier this year in top journals.

“Innovation And Performance: The Role of Environmental Dynamism on the Success of Innovation Business Choices,” with co-authors Ana Perez-Luno and Ramon Valle Cabrera of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide, appeared this August in IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management.

“Small and Medium Size Enterprise’s Entrepreneurial Versus Market Orientation and the Creation of Tacit Knowledge,” co-authored with Ana Perez-Luno of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide and Patrick Saparito of Saint Joseph’s University, has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Small Business Management.

She noted of her published work, “I teach technology management and IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management is a leading journal at the intersection of technology and management. Interestingly, the university in Spain tracked me down and offered me the position based on an earlier article of mine published in the same journal.”

Going forward, Gopalakrishnan says she will continue to work on research projects with colleagues in Spain and also hopes to arrange a graduate student exchange between the two universities.

“I’ve been collaborating with these researchers in Spain and it was really helpful to get to know them,” she said.
